Mayo Clinic highlights campus construction

Mayo Clinic, Destination Medical Center (DMC), the City of Rochester and the Rochester Downtown Alliance (RDA) emphasized the coordination taking place and shared key milestones ahead for Bold. Forward. Unbound in Rochester and Link Bus Rapid Transit in a media briefing held on February 5th.  The City, Mayo, RDA and DMC teams have been hard at work, coordinating to prepare for the arrival of construction crews downtown.

Mayo Clinic shared several milestones on the horizon for this spring, each of which have been carefully sequenced with other local construction to minimize the scale and length of overall disruption downtown.

Demolition will begin this spring to make way for the new Bold. Forward. Unbound. In Rochester clinical buildings and West Logistics Center. Each building will play a pivotal role in Mayo Clinic’s Bold. Forward. vision to transform healthcare. This includes exterior demolition of the Ozmun Complex, which has been undergoing demolition on the interior since closing in October of 2024. Soon, we will see the structure of the complex come down as well.

After months of work to carefully salvage materials for reuse and preservation across the site, exterior demolition at the former Lourdes High School will also begin soon. There, demolition will make way for the construction of the West Logistics Center, a state-of-the-art facility, connected to the future clinical buildings via a new tunnel, that will transform campus connectivity and the process of material delivery.

Bold. Forward. Unbound. in Rochester work to transform the patient arrival experience will move forward this spring as well. This includes the start of construction on the Gonda/Mayo East Entrance project later this spring, and construction on Mayo Clinic’s South Parking Ramp, which will begin in Mid-2025. The South Ramp is planned to be used for staff parking during the construction period.

As work continues on these exciting new investments, Mayo Clinic remains dedicated to supporting the businesses, neighborhoods, and activities that make Rochester a thriving global destination and the heart of our community today. A vibrant and active downtown is important for Mayo Clinic patients, visitors, staff and the community.

Mayo Clinic announced a $500,000 grant to the RDA to help invest in innovative wayfinding, marketing and programming to help maintain a vibrant and active downtown throughout this period of disruption. The RDA has been the leading voice for downtown businesses and bringing activity and vibrancy to the downtown core.
