School flu vaccination sign-up to close soon for Rochester-area schools

Vaccinating your kids at school is convenient and easy, and it protects them from influenza. It also provides protection to keep your family, school and community healthy throughout the year.

There's still time to sign up so your child can receive the flu vaccination at school.

Online sign-up is quick and easy. The deadline to sign up, whether online or with paper forms submitted at the school office, is Sept. 11 at 11 p.m. No late online or paper forms will be accepted.

The School-Located Immunization Program provides flu vaccination to students in kindergarten through grade 12 at most Olmsted and Mower County public and private schools; Hayfield, Kasson-Mantorville, and Triton Public Schools in Dodge County; and Pine Island Public Schools. The program is supported by Mayo Clinic, Olmsted Medical Center, and Olmsted, Dodge and Goodhue County Public Health Services.

The flu vaccine will be offered in the schools as an injection or nose spray (as available). Non-drug, pain-lessening options will also be offered. Teachers will have a short video for their elementary classrooms to ease their students' concerns.

To sign up or learn more about the program, visit the school flu program at the Southeast Minnesota Immunization Connection website.
