Pilot program will keep Gonda West doors open later, enhancing patient experience

If you've ever walked through the Gonda Building lobby after 5 p.m., you may have noticed how quiet it is. Patient feedback suggests that Mayo's guests have noticed, too.

This prompted the outpatient practice team to brainstorm ways to make the space friendlier and more accessible for patients and visitors who are there for late-day procedures or appointments.

From April 15 through May 10, Mayo Clinic is launching a pilot program to extend the hours of the Gonda West entrance, bringing more life to the lobby and enhancing the evening experience. Door attendants will provide a welcoming staff presence and wayfinding help for patients whose care needs keep them in the building after 5 p.m.

Gonda West entrance pilot hours

During the pilot, the Gonda West entrance will remain open during these hours:

  • Monday through Thursday: Open until 10 p.m.

  • Friday: Open until 8 p.m.

What you need to know

Here are some things to know about this change:

  • Practice hours will not change.

  • Door attendants will extend their hours to help patients with wayfinding.

  • Global Security will increase remote monitoring in the evenings during the pilot period.

  • During the pilot, Market Coffee at Skylight will offer hot sandwiches, grab-and-go food options, and coffee until 8 p.m.

  • The airport and hotel shuttle schedule will not change. Valet service will continue to be available at the Gonda Building until 7 p.m.

  • Since the circle driveway in front of the Gonda West entrance will be needed for patient pickup and drop-off, staff should avoid parking in this area.

  • Patient feedback will be collected through in-person surveys to help identify potential changes for the future.
