Mayo Clinic staff volunteer in Arizona
Mayo Clinic physicians, nurses, and physical and respiratory therapists are volunteering at the Phoenix Waste Management Open, a major PGA golf tournament held Feb. 6-12. They’re staffing four Mayo medical sites to keep players, guests and vendors safe.
More than 300 Arizona staff hit the links this week. They didn’t swing golf clubs, however. The physicians, nurses, and physical and respiratory therapists volunteered at the Phoenix Waste Management Open, a major PGA golf tournament sponsored by Mayo Clinic. The event attracts more than 700,000 spectators each year.
Mayo volunteers are staffing four medical sites throughout the course to keep players, guests and vendors safe.
With hundreds of thousands attending the event, organizing the tournament required a lot of teamwork.
“We work collaboratively with public safety on the prevention side. We are here, and we are ready for anything.” says Pam Glassley, Mayo Clinic Employee Activities
Since those attending the event can receive medical assistance from Mayo on-site, patient transfers from the event to Mayo Clinic Hospital and other surrounding emergency departments are greatly reduced.
The Phoenix Waste Management Open takes place five miles from Mayo’s Phoenix campus.
