Mayo Clinic recognized for disability inclusion, remains committed to continuous improvement

Mayo received the highest possible score on the Disability Equality Index and was named a "Best Place To Work For Disability Inclusion" by the American Association of People With Disabilities, the nation's largest disability rights organization, and Disability:IN, a global business disability inclusion network.

Disability:IN released the complete list of organizations recognized as a "Best Place To Work For Disability Inclusion" along with their scores this week.

For the past eight years, Mayo Clinic has actively participated in the Disability Equality Index survey consistently achieving a top score of 100. The recognition is a testament to Mayo's belief in the power of unity and the strength of diversity.

"Mayo Clinic's dedication to accessibility for both patients and employees goes beyond policies and practices," says Paula Menkosky, Mayo's chief human resources officer. "It's woven into our RICH TIES values and the daily interactions we have with one another."

Disability is a part of the human experience, crossing all boundaries, including age, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status and other demographics. Globally, there are 1.3 billion people with disabilities.

The Disability Equality Index survey is the world's most comprehensive benchmarking tool for Fortune 1,000 companies. It evaluates disability workplace inclusion within organizations and assesses performance across industry sectors.

The 2024 Disability Equality Index survey measured:

  • Culture and leadership.

  • Enterprise-wide access.

  • Employment practices, including benefits, recruitment, education, retention and advancement, and accommodations.

  • Community engagement.

  • Supplier diversity.

  • Responsible procurement.

Mayo's top score of 100 reflects the implementation of innovative disability inclusion practices featured in the Disability Equality Index.

"Achieving a top score reflects our unwavering commitment to enhancing our processes and forward-thinking disability inclusion initiatives," says Anjali Bhagra, M.D., medical director of Mayo's Office of Equity, Inclusion and Diversity. "This achievement is about continuous improvement for our staff."
