Mayo Clinic Food Services reduces waste, gives back to canines and the community

Mayo Clinic Food Services is promoting the “Waste Not Wag a Lot” program in staff cafes at Mayo Clinic in Arizona, Florida and Rochester, and Mayo Clinic Health System locations in Eau Claire and La Crosse, Wisconsin. This program is part of the Stop Food Waste global movement and runs April 17–30. The program creates dog biscuits from dog-friendly food scraps discarded during the food production process. This reduces food waste and provides treats for furry canine friends.

Mayo Clinic employees can purchase dog treats in Mayo cafeterias or donate to a participating local humane society. For every large bag of treats purchased, Mayo Clinic Food Services will donate a small bag of treats to the local humane society. Employees can also purchase treats for donation by picking up a “Paw it Forward” donation coupon from the display table in the cafe and paying for the donation with a cashier or at a kiosk. Food Services will make and deliver donated treats to the humane society each week.

Staff at participating locations will be treated to more tail-wagging fun throughout the month of April as volunteers from Caring Canines will make a guest appearance at cafes in Rochester, Phoenix, Jacksonville and La Crosse.
