Providing free echocardiograms at health fair

LifeGate Services is a nonprofit organization that serves Olmsted County residents, including seniors, people with disabilities, low-income families, racial and ethnic minorities, and traditionally underserved people. The organization sponsors wellness programs, community referral services, monthly food shelf programs, and health education to residents of Olmsted County.

They also host an annual community health fair in partnership with Mayo Clinic, Sage Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program of Minnesota, Bridges Health of Winona State University, Hy-Vee and other local businesses in the Rochester area to provide routine preventive screenings to the community.

Mayo Clinic staff from Echo Lab and Cardiovascular Diseases volunteered at the health fair.

They were able to complete 48 echocardiograms and diagnosed participants with atypical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and rheumatic heart disease. A number of health fair participants were diagnosed with hypertensive heart disease, radiation-induced valvulopathy, and more.
