Mayo Clinic recognizes World Cholangiocarcinoma Day

On February 16, Mayo Clinic lighted facilities green to recognize World Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) Day.

World CCA Day is an international effort to raise much-needed awareness of CCA, a devastating cancer that occurs in the bile ducts in or outside the liver. This poorly understood and under researched disease is increasing in incidence globally – and collaboration is the way forward.

Cholangiocarcinoma is the second most common primary liver cancer in the world. It typically affects people over the age of 65 and unfortunately is aggressive and has a poor prognosis. In general, the incidence and mortality rates of cholangiocarcinoma appear to be increasing across all age groups, including younger people.
