Mayo Clinic plans to build two new staff parking ramps on its Rochester campuses. The new Saint Marys Campus ramp will significantly expand parking capacity for staff there, while the downtown ramp will help offset the anticipated impact when major construction begins as part of Bold. Forward. Unbound. in Rochester.

"We are pleased to provide additional parking for our staff," says Natalie Caine, chief administrative officer of Mayo Clinic in Rochester. "These new ramps and other parking options in the works will help improve accessibility for staff."

Saint Marys Campus

The new staff ramp at Mayo Clinic Hospital — Rochester, Saint Marys Campus, part of the ongoing Saint Marys Campus Modernization Project, is expected to open in 2026 and will add about 1,000 stalls, an increase of 45% in on-campus staff parking capacity.

After an in-depth traffic study, planning teams identified the site just east of Ramp 34 as the designated location for a new parking facility, which was one of the sites designated as potential future parking as part of Mayo Clinic's comprehensive five-year plan.

"We carefully studied multiple sites to ensure optimal traffic flow, access to the ramp, and to maximize the number of stalls," says Doug Holtan, chair of Facilities and Support Services.

The design phase is expected to last through the end of the year, with construction to begin in 2025 and completion expected in 2026.

Downtown Rochester campus

The 500-stall South Ramp is intended for patient parking after the completion of new facilities downtown.

But now, the South Ramp timeline has been accelerated to help minimize the disruption and provide more staff parking options during construction. Once completed, it will be temporarily designated for staff during the construction period for Bold. Forward. Unbound. in Rochester.

Multiple teams, including representatives from Parking and Transportation, Facilities, Administration and Strategy, as well as staff, have been working to maximize the use of current parking capacity and to identify new solutions to support staff and respond to feedback.

"These are high-priority projects for us," Holtan says. "Our staff works diligently every day to provide the best patient care, and we are excited to provide some support by adding parking capacity."

Construction for the South Ramp is projected to begin in 2025 on the west side of the Baldwin Building, mirroring the timeline of the Saint Marys staff parking ramp.
